What's the difference between .msg and .eml?
Both hold a single email. .msg is Microsoft's binary Outlook format (an OLE2
compound file) that normally requires Outlook to open; .eml is the open RFC 5322
text format used by almost every other mail program. Converting to .eml makes the message
portable: readable, searchable and importable outside Outlook. For the reverse direction —
reading .eml files or turning them into PDFs — use the
EML to PDF converter.
How do I open the converted .eml file?
Just double-click it: on a Mac it opens in Apple Mail, on Windows in Outlook or Windows Mail, and Mozilla Thunderbird (free) opens it on any system. You can also drag a whole folder of .eml files into Thunderbird's Local Folders, or import them into most mail servers and archive tools — .eml is the interchange format they all accept.
Does the conversion keep attachments and formatting?
Yes. The rebuilt .eml carries the original headers, the HTML body when the message has one (with the plain-text version kept alongside it), and every attachment embedded as a standard MIME part — names and bytes intact, including non-English file names. Nothing is flattened or rasterized: the output is a real email file, not a picture of one.
How do I get .msg files out of Outlook?
Drag an email from the Outlook message list onto your desktop or into a folder — that creates a .msg file. Then drop it here. On Outlook for Mac, drag out gives you .eml instead, which needs no conversion at all — open it with the EML viewer.
Is it really private? These are work emails.
Yes. The .msg parser is JavaScript running inside your browser tab and the .eml file is assembled there too — no server ever sees the file, the emails, or the output. Open your browser's Network tab while you work and watch: no content is transmitted. See the privacy policy.
It says "MSG support failed to load" — why?
The .msg parser is a separate open-source module loaded from a CDN the first time you drop a file. If your connection or an aggressive content blocker stops that download, the page shows that message — check your connection (or the blocker) and reload. Everything else about the page works offline after the first load.
What exactly does a license cover?
