How do I open a .msg file without Outlook?

Can I view .msg files on a Mac?
Yes. Outlook for Mac doesn't open Windows .msg files natively either, but this viewer runs in any modern browser — Safari, Chrome, Firefox — on macOS, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS. Just drop the file in.
What's the difference between .msg and .eml?
Both hold a single email. .msg is Microsoft's binary Outlook format (an OLE2
compound file) that normally requires Outlook; .eml is the open RFC 5322 text
format used by most other mail software. This page handles .msg; for
.eml files use the EML viewer.
Can I read the attachments too?
Yes — every attachment is listed with its name, type and size, and each can be downloaded individually for free. Attachments are extracted locally from the .msg container, never sent to a server.
Is it safe for confidential work email?
Yes — by construction. The parser is JavaScript running inside your own browser; no bytes of the file, the message, or any attachment are transmitted anywhere. Open developer tools (Network tab) and watch while you work: no content leaves the machine. See the privacy policy.
It says "MSG support failed to load" — why?
The .msg parser is a separate open-source module loaded from a CDN the first time you drop a file. If your connection or an aggressive content blocker stops that download, the page shows that message — check your connection (or the blocker) and reload. Everything else about the page works offline after the first load.
